Shipping Your Car Truck or Vehicle to or from Alaska
TOTE normally sails twice a week to and from the Ports of Tacoma, WA and Anchorage, AK. It can take between 4-7 days from the time you drop your vehicle in our yard until you can pick it up at either destination. Specific drop off and pick up hours can be found under the “Frequently Asked Questions” page. Bookings can be made at our Online Booking Site*, via phone, fax, or email.

Vehicle Shipping Instructions
- Make a reservation for northbound bookings by calling Tacoma at 800-426-0074 or make a southbound reservation by calling Alaska at 800-234-8683 and ask for the respective Vehicle Booking Departments.
- Payment and bill of lading must be completed prior to TOTE moving your vehicle. This can be done over the phone or at the time the vehicle is delivered to us.
- Disconnect sensitive car alarms prior to arrival at the terminal.
- Condition of Vehicle:
- When tendering a vehicle for shipment, it must be washed and clean enough for a suitable inspection to determine any preexisting damage.
- All vehicles tendered for shipment shall be in safe operating condition; specifically, but not exclusively, to include the following:
- Fully operative brakes
- Fully operative steering mechanism
- Self-propelled, where that is the normal mode of operation for the vehicle
- All tires to be properly inflated to manufacturers recommended operating pressure
- Power transmission/driveline connected and operating
- If vehicles are not in safe operating condition when tendered to TOTE, they will be considered disabled and shipped under the charges and provisions of Disabled or No Start Vehicles in TOTE Tariff STB 300-C, Item 987. We do move these, but typically load them to a flat bed trailer. Please call us if your vehicle is inoperable. TOTE may refuse to accept a vehicle if its condition is considered too dangerous for shipment.
- Vehicles received for shipment must have radiators and batteries adequately protected from freezing. The vehicle must be winterized to -40 degrees.
- Vehicles may have no more than one-quarter (1/4) tank of combustible fuel. This is a non-negotiable, US Coast Guard Regulation so please take this into consideration when getting ready to ship.
- Vehicles equipped with propane tanks for auxiliary uses must be delivered for shipment with the tank valves taped or zip tied closed. All propane-powered vehicles must be stowed on the main deck of the vessel. When booking your propane vehicle, please request main deck stow.
- The shipment of firearms, ammunition, hazardous material, and explosives in any vehicle is prohibited.
- Up to 15 pounds of personal effects may be loaded inside the vehicle at no additional charge. Please call our Quote Department at 253-449-8248 or 1-800-426-0074 for charges applicable to more than 15 pounds of personal effects. Anything of high value such as money, cellular phones, radar detectors, CD's, etc. should not be left in the vehicle. It is strongly recommended that all personal effects should be properly boxed in sealed containers and secured for shipment.
- TOTE's liability for personal effects is subject to a maximum value of $.10 per pound. If you should require additional cargo liability coverage, please contact our Claims Department at 1-800-426-0074.
- Special Equipment Attached to Vehicles:
- TOTE will not accept responsibility or liability for loss or damage to special equipment on motor vehicles unless shipper completes and signs the motor vehicle questionnaires on TOTE's Bill of Lading at the time the vehicle is offered for shipment.
These guidelines are subject to change. Transportation of personal vehicles is subject to the terms and conditions of TOTE STB Tariff 300-C in effect on the day of tender.

Exception - Anchorage Vehicle Receiving and Delivery is not available from 8 AM to 1 PM on Thursdays.
An appointment may be necessary for the receipt of certain vehicles.
